- An understanding of the industry, covering key principles of air pressure testing and the regulations and standards that govern the process.
- An understanding of the requirements for Background Ventilation Testing under PAS 2035.
- Practical hands-on experience with Blower door and Pulse testing equipment, which will be introduced and explained during the classroom-based part of the course.
By the end of the course, you will be fully qualified to perform Level 1 Airtightness Tests for simple structures up to 4,000 m³. You will also have the relevant competency required to conduct Background Ventilation Assessments under Pathways A and B of PAS 2035, with the knowledge to offer alternative methods for meeting Pathway C requirements.
Course Delivery: Important Information
Elmhurst has streamlined the course delivery process to maximise your hands-on learning experience for delivering Airtightness and Background Ventilation Tests. To make the most of your instructor-led practical training day, it’s essential to complete the On-Demand Theory Training before attending. Please note: Failure to complete the theory modules in advance may result in forfeiting your place on the practical day.
- Book Your Practical Day
Choose a date from the available options below. - Complete On Demand Theory Training (2 Days)
After booking, you’ll receive access to six theory modules, which must be completed before your practical day. A full module breakdown is available in the dropdown below. We expect that this part of the course will take approximately 2 days to complete. - Attend Practical Day (1 Day)
Spend a day applying your knowledge through hands-on experience with blower door and pulse testing equipment. You will also have a competency test on this day. - Receive BVT Competency Certificate
Following successful completion of the competency test on the practical day, you will receive a Certificate of Competency in Background Ventilation Assessment of Existing Buildings
- Complete 3 Live Test Cases
After the practical day, you’ll need to conduct airtightness tests on three properties of your choosing. - Receive Your Airtightness Qualification
Once your live test cases are successfully completed, you will receive your official qualification in Airtightness Testing.
Should you wish to complete and lodge Airtightness tests for building compliance, you will need to join a recognised competent persons scheme such as the Elmhurst Airtightness Scheme.
Should you also wish to lodge valid Background Ventilation Tests within the funded retrofit market (For the Energy Company Obligation etc), you will also need to be a member with the Insulation Assurance Authority (IAA) as well as a recognised competent persons scheme.
Prerequisites
