Background Ventilation Assessment of Existing Dwellings (Classroom)

Course length 2 Days
Suitable for See Course Description
Qualifications 10 Hours CPD + Certificate of Competency in Background Ventilation Assessment of Existing Buildings
10 Hours CPD

Suitable for: Retrofit professionals looking to assess background ventilation rates to potentially negate the need to add further ventilators during retrofitting. This includes Retrofit Assessors, Coordinators, Installers, Designers.

There is a requirement for those individuals carrying out testing to be a member of the Elmhurst Airtightness Scheme. Training is being offered to those installers who wish to pursue this route.

This two-day course is knowledge based with a practical assessment.

On successful completion you will gain a Certificate of Competency in Background Ventilation Assessment of Existing Buildings allowing you to register with the Elmhurst Airtightness Scheme and use the agreed process to determine if there is a requirement for additional background ventilation when working under PAS 2035 guidelines for Pathways A & B retrofit energy efficiency measures.

Please note, this is not for new build compliance but instead builds on the use of this equipment. This provides a more specific assessment of background ventilation along with a more comprehensive approach to ventilation assessment based on actual performance of the property pre and post installation. This is an approach to address background ventilation requirements under pathway A and B of PAS 2035. Currently for Pathway C assessments then an AirTest is required, this should be undertaken by Level 1 Tester and completion of this course only permits Background Ventilation tests for Pathways A+B.

Use of the process can avoid the unnecessary install of trickle vents and door undercuts where sufficient existing background ventilation is proven.

In order to use the process individuals carrying out testing must be certified by the Elmhurst Air Tightness Scheme and undergo training on the process from The IAA or Elmhurst as the two recognised training providers. On completion, individuals must be certified with The IAA and Elmhurst schemes and will receive a remote analysis of their lodgment’s along with onsite surveillance during the year.

Please be aware that those who operate equipment and who are not registered with the scheme will not be permitted to lodge data to evidence sufficient background ventilation is in existence. Equally this approach does not negate the need for additional background ventilation such as door undercuts and trickle ventilation where results indicate that background ventilation is not adequate post-installation of an energy efficiency measure.
