The Psi-Value Competency course aims to provide assessors (and others) with training in undertaking 2D and 3D thermal bridging calculations for junctions for entry into SAP and SBEM. Assessors can join the competency scheme upon satisfactory completion of examples.

Course Content

Day 1 – Introduction and Background:

  • A look at the Building Regulations and SAP
  • Principles of heat flow in buildings
  • A review of thermal bridging conventions, BR497
  • A look at some examples and entry of results into SAP

Day 2 – 2D Thermal Bridging analysis:

  • An Introduction to 2D Trisco
  • A walkthrough of building a model
  • Practical workshop of 2D examples

Day 3 –  3D Thermal Bridging analysis:

  • An Introduction to 3D TRISCO
  • A walkthrough of building a model
  • Practical workshop of 3D examples
  • Complete the booking form reference AP122 on line
  • Complete 5 test cases provided during training course
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of test cases the candidate will attain certification of defined areas of competency detailed below –
    • Psi Value calculations in accordance with BR 497
    • 2D and 3D junctions
  • Inclusion on Elmhurst’s list of competent scheme members on the Elmhurst website

Please note: This course does NOT cover Therm calculations software.

  • Scheme members will have to have satisfactorily completed the supplied test cases
  • Scheme members will be required to have their own professional indemnity insurance
  • Scheme members will be required to complete annual competency assessment of further test cases to remain within the scheme
  • Scheme members will be required to purchase their own software licence after attending the training days

*Scheme attendees are allowed 3 attempts to complete test cases satisfactorily prior to requirement to re-attend training
