Elmhurst’s U-Value Competency course and scheme is aimed at individuals who wish to gain additional validity for their U-Value calculations. Our reputable scheme reinforces the good work of assessors by providing a robust framework that monitors their work, and provides a recognised seal of approval to prospective clients.

Course Delivery: Important Information

Elmhurst has streamlined this course to maximise your learning experience. To make the most of your live online training day, it’s essential to complete the On-Demand Theory Training before attending.

How It Works:

  1. Book Your Course Date
    Choose a date from the available options.
  2. Complete On Demand Theory Training
    After booking, you’ll receive access to seven modules, which must be completed before your live online training day. A full module breakdown is available in the dropdown below.
  3. Attend Course (1 Day)
    Spend a day applying your knowledge and take a look at the U Value calculator in more detail.
  4. Complete 6 Test Cases
    You will complete 6 test cases to undertake and reach the required standard.
  5. Post Course
    After completion you can apply to join the Elmhurst scheme and benefit from the added knowledge to your Energy calculations.

Module 1 > Why U Values are important, Heat gains & SAP/RdSAP inputs.

Module 2 > The Scheme introduction and Online U Value calculator (including a video guide to basic inputs).

Module 3 > Heat Transfer and U Value calculation methods.

Module 4 > BR443, Conventions, Thermal Bridges and Shelter factors.

Module 5 > Air Layers and Corrections.

Module 6 > Additional Roof and Floor scenarios.

Module 7 > Key Considerations, next steps and joining the scheme.

  • Complete the booking form reference AP111 on line
  • Attend our One Day U-Value Course (CPD course &/or entry course to competency scheme)
  • 6 test cases provided during training course – 4 weeks to complete test cases with 100% pass rate requirement*
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of test cases you will attain certification of defined areas of competency detailed below –
    • The combined calculation method BS EN ISO 6946:2007
    • U-Value Conventions BR443: 2006
    • Floors (slab on ground & suspended) BS EN ISO 13370: 2007
    • Elements covered – Masonry & timber walls, roofs & floors
