Domestic Energy Assessor Training

Learn how to produce Energy Performance Certificates for domestic dwellings with the UK’s largest accreditation scheme.

Elmhurst’s City and Guilds accredited Domestic Energy Assessor Training is a fantastic introduction into the world of energy assessment; providing individuals with the skills and knowledge to produce energy calculations using reduced data Standard Assessment Procedure (RdSAP) methodology- which is a lot easier than it sounds!

Essentially EPCs are required for all existing residential dwellings in the UK before they are sold or let, which is why Domestic Energy Assessors are needed to produce those important energy calculations for these properties.

Elmhurst's DEA Training course provides information at a pace that suits our trainees to ensure they understand the content and are able to gradually build up their skills and knowledge. Our training takes individuals from classroom learning to undertaking practical energy assessments in a matter of days!

Course Options

Elmhurst offer three DEA training courses: DEA 3-day, DEA Condensed 5-day and DEA for beginners

Domestic Energy Assessor 3 Day Course

Elmhurst’s three day course covers all the relevant information needed to qualify as a DEA. Unlike the 5 Day courses available, this course does not include site visits.

This course is followed by a portfolio review and assessment day (around a month later), after which successful candidates who have completed all elements of the qualification successfully will be awarded the City and Guilds DEA qualification required to work as a DEA.

Domestic Energy Assessor Condensed 5 Day

This course follows the same format of the 3-day DEA course, with the exception that the last two days will be spent conducting property inspections and building a portfolio of supporting work.

This condensed course allows candidates to complete the course in a shorter time period, owing to the portfolio of work being integrated into the course. Candidates can therefore expect an element of pre-course learning and self-directed evening study, although this does not make up a significant part of the course.

The DEA 5-day course is ideal for new entrants to the industry and property professionals, and has the added bonus of candidates being able to get assistance and guidance with their portfolio whilst on the training course.

Course breakdown:

  • Introduction to energy assessment
  • The City & Guilds Award and assessment process
  • Assessment of Professional Supplementary Skills and open book exercises
  • Calculating heat loss perimeters & floor areas with a practical measuring exercise
