Smart Auditing Launched

BEIS publishes the next version of SAP

You may remember in 2017 the department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) issued a consultation on proposed changes to the SAP methodology which would then be implemented in the next SAP version. Yesterday afternoon (24th July 2018) BEIS published the next version of SAP, known to industry as ‘SAP 10’. A copy of SAP 10 can be downloaded from here. From April 2019 all large UK companies will report on energy use and carbon emissions

Back in January of this year, Elmhurst provided a response to the government consultation ‘Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting’. ECO3 consultation concluded- massive opportunity wasted

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) have responded to a consultation on their flagship ‘energy efficiency’ policy for domestic homes in the UK called the Energy Companies Obligation (ECO). UK will miss its energy efficiency targets for homes by 60 years

The UK will miss its target for boosting the energy efficiency of the poorest performing homes by more than 60 years, according to think tank the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR). The government had committed to upgrade fuel poor homes to an EPC band C by 2030 in its 2015 Fuel Poverty scheme, but current estimates put this at 2091 at the earliest. Improving people's homes leads to less hospitals admissions

A significant research study has found that home improvements have real health benefits for the families occupying them. A study of 9,256 properties in south Wales, which took place between 2009 and 2014, found a substantial decrease in the number of hospital admissions for those living in improved homes which met the Welsh Housing Quality Standards. 92.5% of the homes were improved by at least one measure such as new heating systems, wall or loft

Scotland plan for review of energy standards

The Building Standards Division of Scottish Government have announced a call for evidence as part of their review of the energy standards within the Scottish Building Regulations.  The review is considering the next steps to further enhance the energy performance of buildings and contribute to greenhouse gas abatement targets set under the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009.  The first stage of the review is a ‘call for evidence’ which gathers stakeholder views on the design

Government should lead by example

A recent freedom of information request has shown that the government department in charge of energy policy has some of the countries least energy inefficient buildings. Four of the eleven offices leased by the Department of Business, Energy and Industry (BEIS) had an Display Energy Certificate rating of G - the lowest possible score. Display Energy Certificates (DECS) are used to measure the energy performance of public buildings on a score of A to G
