Elmhurst is a government approved certification body, we are one of the largest and most reputable in the UK. We train energy assessors to a high standard and ensure that all appropriate checks are carried out on individuals before they are certified to our scheme and enter people’s homes. Certified domestic energy assessors (DEAs) are able to produce EPCs for existing domestic dwellings by undertaking energy assessments on a home, the EPC is produced by entering the data from the energy assessment into specialised software to create the EPC which is then lodged into a government central register.
While we as certification body are not responsible for the allocation of energy assessors to undertake EPCs on your home, we offer members of the public a ‘Search for an Elmhurst Assessor’ facility available on our website. Simply click on the link below, select the type of EPC your require, enter your post code and the search facility will return the contact details of Elmhurst Assessors operating within or closest to your area.

As soon as a building is in the process of being offered for sale or rent, it is the responsibility of the seller or landlord (i.e. the relevant person) to make available free of charge an EPC to any prospective buyer or tenant. The EPC must be provided by the seller or landlord at the earliest opportunity. Before a building is put on the market the seller or landlord must commission an EPC for the building. They are also required when a Non Domestic Building is built.
There are certain circumstances where a commercial building is exempt from an EPC on sale, let or construction, for example where a building is completely stand alone or detached and under 50m2.
Always confirm with a Non-Domestic Energy Assessor whether your building falls under an exemption.
A Non-Domestic EPC is valid for 10 years unless superseded by a more recent EPC.
