CCC keeps the focus on energy efficiency

Share

In a message that will be welcomed by all energy assessors, Chris Stark, head of the UK’s Climate Change Committee, has repeated the mantra that “The UK must do more to insulate the country’s draughty homes”.

Stark went on to say that the Climate Change Committee considers that government policy on insulation is “very poor” and that two-thirds of homes, or 19 million, need better insulation.

Mr Stark told BBC News that the government isn’t doing enough to help fund this costly work and that the Government needs to provide “a sharper incentive for most people to make these investments in improving the energy efficiency of the home that they live in”.

Elmhurst’s Group Managing Director, Martyn Reed, commented that “the message from the climate change committee is very welcome as our industry, yet again, stands on the edge of a precipice. The current Energy Companies Obligation (ECO) expires at the end of March 2022 meaning that, with just seven weeks of certainty left, we do not yet have the detail of what ECO4 (its replacement) will be. For at least ten years Elmhurst has been calling for long term planning which gives industry the confidence to invest in technology and people. The climate change committee is our friend in that regard and we need to support their work”
