This comprehensive two-day course combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical experience, ensuring that learners can safely and accurately perform Background Ventilation Tests. Learners will gain a thorough understanding of the requirements for Background Ventilation Testing under PAS 2035 and will be trained in the use of the necessary software for conducting these tests.

Carrying out pre and post Energy Efficiency Measures (EEM) installation testing will provide evidence as to whether additional background ventilation is required. This is a popular route for confirming PAS 2035: 2023 compliance, as if results deem it suitable, this can negate the need to install additional ventilation such as trickle vents or door undercuts. This can potentially reduce costs and disruption, whilst ensuring background ventilation is only installed when absolutely necessary.

Course Delivery: Important Information

Elmhurst has streamlined the training process to maximise your hands-on learning experience for delivering Background Ventilation Tests. To make the most of your practical training day, it’s essential to complete the On-Demand Theory Training before attending. Please note: Failure to complete the theory modules in advance may result in forfeiting your place on the practical day.

How It Works:

  1. Book Your Practical Day
Choose a date from the available options below. Please note, if you are wanting to see both blower door and pulse testing equipment, you will need to book each practical day (2-days). Please contact the training team to discuss further.
  2. Complete On Demand Theory Training (1 Day)
After booking, you’ll receive access to four theory modules, which must be completed before your practical day. A full module breakdown is available in the dropdown below. We expect that this part of the course will take 1 day to complete.
  3. Attend Practical Day (1 Day)
Spend a day applying your knowledge through hands-on experience with pulse testing equipment.
  4. Complete Competency Test
Upon successfully passing the competency test, you will be awarded a Certificate of Competency in Background Ventilation Assessment of Existing Buildings.

Should you wish to complete and lodge valid Background Ventilation Tests within the funded retrofit market (For the Energy Company Obligation etc), you will need to be a member with both Elmhurst’s AirTightness Scheme and the Insulation Assurance Authority (IAA).
