Course summary

This half-day course will teach you how to use DesignBuilder’s new Section 63 tools to generate Section 63 Action Plans in Scotland. The course will focus on the process of using DesignBuilder so delegates will “learn by doing” and then consolidate their knowledge with some practical examples. Using DesignBuilder for your Section 63 modelling has these advantages:

  • Follow a clearly defined workflow with robust QA procedures to help identify errors and minimise audit problems.

  • The flexibility to quickly apply alternative measures across a building to check for compliance.

  • Easily identify targets for improvement and provide outputs to assist with Section 63 reporting.

  • A seamless transition between EPC and Section 63 analyses.

  • Avoid longwinded manual building geometry calculations and data input to significantly reduce your overall modelling time for large buildings compared to tools like iSBEM.

  • The course will cover all the required steps from XML model extraction through to generating results and Action Plans, including:
  • How to choose whether to improve the EPC rating or undertake a Section 63 assessment.

  • Export/Import of results from DesignBuilder to dedicated spreadsheet for assessment and reporting.

  • QA techniques specific to Section 63 Alternative Measures.

  • How to target improvement measures where they will impact most.

  • Simple models and worksheets with established goals to consolidate your learning.

This training may be necessary for assessors that want to lodge Section 63 Action Plans using DesignBuilder (if in doubt please speak to your accreditation body).

All certified energy assessors in the UK must adhere to a mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) policy. Details of which are located in section 7 of the Elmhurst Code of Conduct.

CPD is an annual requirement and runs yearly from January to December for our members. Throughout the year, the assessor must complete 10 hours valid CPD per accreditation strand i.e. DEA. For any additional strands, the accredited assessor must complete an additional 5 hours valid CPD per additional strand i.e. DEA & NDEA (NDEA Level 3, 4 and DECs count as one strand). ESOS assessors will need to contact the organisation they are registered with to confirm their annual CPD requirements.
