SAP 25th Anniversary Event

On Tuesday 11th September, Elmhurst were invited to the BRE to help celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the ‘Standard Assessment Procedure’ (SAP) methodology.

Jason Hewins (On Construction Team Leader) and Stuart Fairlie (Technical Director) who between them have 30 years experience in SAP attended the event on Elmhurst's behalf, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The BRE explained the fascinating background to the work done from the late 1970s through papers, research and standards and through the 1980s, which ultimately led to the creation of the first version of SAP in 1993.

It was great to see lots of old familiar faces and to discuss anecdotes about the founders of the research and methodologies notably Brian Anderson and George Henderson. The day also turned to the future direction of SAP, and Elmhurst are delighted to see a real commitment from the BRE to keep the methodology up to date and also from Government representatives (MHCLG and BEIS) about the commitment to use it as the base of all good policy from the Clean Growth Strategy.

The BRE produced a lovely cake unfortunately we didn’t get to eat any! We are however very confident and passionate about the future of SAP and we are all sure it will continue to evolve and meet expectations moving forward.

We are now looking forward to catching up with energy assessors at our own 25th Anniversary event where we will reminisce over the progress made and the changes that we have all seen within the industry (as well as looking forward to the future). The Elmhurst Conference, will be held at the Leicester Tigers Stadium on Tuesday 2nd October. We shall hopefully see you there.

Stuart Fairlie – Technical Director
