Number of houses built skyrockets to an 11 year high!
Exciting new figures released by Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) reveal that 170,000 homes were completed in the year ending June 2019 – the highest number built over the same period in the last 11 years.
The figures show an increase of 8% of new homes being completed compared to the previous year, with family homes making up 78% of those constructed.
Housing Secretary Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP said: “I’m determined to deliver homes that are high-quality, well designed and good for the planet. Faster and simpler planning regulations will help us reach that goal, which is why I have announced measures to accelerate planning decisions for homes and reduce the use of unnecessary conditions by up to a third, freeing up developers so they can get on and build in a locally appropriate way.”
This news follows an announcement earlier in the week, where ministers announced new measures that will accelerate the pace of the decision making process.
This is fantastic news for Elmhurst members, where our On Construction Assessors in particular will have benefitted from this surge in the market. We hope this trend is maintained and that our members’ expertise continues to be utilised to provide high quality SAP calculations.
