New Minister as Sajid Javid moves to Home Office
The Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government have confirmed this morning that James Brokenshire has been appointed as the new Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government. This follows the move of Sajid Javid to the Home Office.
Mr Brokenshire is currently MP for Old Bexley and Sidcup, where he has been the MP since May 2010. He was previously the MP for Hornchurch and Rainham (2005-2010). He was also Sectary of State for Northern Ireland from June 2016-Jan 2018, and had previous also worked in the Home Office.
Mr Brokenshire tweeted this morning “Honoured to have been asked by the Prime Minister to serve as Secretary of State at the Ministry of Housing Communities & Local Government. Looking forward to taking the Government’s agenda forward especially on building the homes our country needs.”
Mr Brokenshire will take over from Mr Javid at a very significant time as he will inherit the future direction of Building Regulations following the Dame Judith Hackett review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety.
