New 'How to Rent' guides issued by Government
The Ministry for Housing Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) have today (26th June) issued a series of helpful guides for existing and new tenants, landlords and letting agents.
“These guides form a key part of government’s continuing crackdown on poor practice by a minority of landlords and agents in the private rented and leasehold sectors.”
The guides present clear statements of the law in relation to Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and the vital role that they play in the rental market.
Stuart Fairlie – Technical Director of Elmhurst says “These ‘how to’ guides are useful for all parties in the rental market; they clearly identify the EPC as a legal requirement and ensure that everyone is clear in terms of the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) impact. Elmhurst has created many guides and factsheets for EPCs and MEES over the years, to help landlords, tenants and energy assessors understand the requirements in the private rented sector. The more agencies creating clarity around this the better.”
