Jeremy Corbyn continues Shadow Cabinet reshuffle
Following recent turbulent events within the Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn has continued his reshuffle of the shadow cabinet.
Of particular note, Dr Alan Whitehead has just returned to his previous post as Shadow Energy and Climate Change Minister. This is months after resigning in protest at Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership. Now that Mr Corbyn has been re-elected as leader by the party members, it seems that the matter of being an ‘opposition’ to the Conservative Party is beginning to occur in earnest.
He joins a team with Clive Lewis, who is Shadow Secretary of state for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy; which also includes Chi Onwurah as Shadow Minister for Industrial Strategy and Shadow Labour Minister Jack Dromey.
Dr Whitehead has previously served on the Energy and Climate Change and Environmental Audit Committees and is widely respected as an expert in this field.
Elmhurst welcome this appointment and hope that the Shadow Cabinet starts to function effectively; it is vital, as we start the new leadership under Theresa May, that any changes to legislation and polices are effectively debated for the good of us all. As always a strong opposition is required to challenge and investigate policy decisions by the incumbent Government.
Other Shadow Ministers that affect our members are Teresa Pearce – Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government and John Healy – Shadow Secretary of State for Housing.
