Ellie recently joined Elmhurst after graduating from university. She works on the Domestic Support Team where she helps members complete energy efficiency assessments for domestic properties, and takes an active part in the development of innovative products.
Umm... I needed a job! I'd just graduated and I knew that I didn't want to stay in Middlesborough. So I applied for jobs related to my degree and I got offered an interview with Elmhurst.
I completed my undergraduate degree in physical geography at Manchester Metropolitan University and I did my post graduate degree in energy and environment management at Teesside University.
I sent in my CV and around a week later I had a phone interview with the head of HR and my (now) team leader, Damien. After that I was invited in for a face-to-face interview and I was offered the job the same day.
It's really good. I'll admit that it was a bit slow to start with because they like to break you in gently and make sure that you're familiar with Energy Performance Certificates and how to use the software.
Before I started, I got sent on the five-day Domestic Energy Assessor course and that was a great introduction to the industry. It also means that I'm a qualified DEA, through City & Guilds.
I like how there's a variety of things to do. At the moment I'm helping to develop a chat bot, as well as answering queries from members completing energy assessments. I've also been made the product owner of 'Evidence' which is an online tool that assessors use, and I enjoy having the responsibility for that.
The team is also really nice. I feel like everyone's got time for you and you can always ask questions - which I frequently do!
