New QA Standards for Domestic Energy Assessors

Introduction of Mandatory Quality Assurance Standard

Towards the end of last year, CLG raised concerns regarding inconsistent Quality Assurance (QA) standards between different Accreditation Schemes and, as a result of this, have published a mandatory QA standard which is to be adopted across the industry.

Elmhurst have always believed that this approach was necessary to help promote higher standards within the energy assessment industry and we therefore fully embrace this move by CLG. We are sure that our Members will also see the obvious benefits in adopting a more consistent Standard which, it is hoped, will lend more credibility and value to the EPC.

What is the new CLG Standard?

The CLG Standard defines the level of QA auditing which is to be carried out by each Scheme, along with the corrective action that Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs) are expected to undertake, where necessary. A copy of the QA Standard can be downloaded here.

What are the Minimum Evidence Requirements?

CLG have defined specific minimum evidence requirements which must be adopted by all DEAs when undertaking property inspections and all assessors must ensure that the appropriate evidence is provided each time a QA audit is requested by the Scheme. Please click here to download a copy of the Minimum Evidence Requirements.

When will the new CLG standard be introduced?

The new QA Standard will be introduced on 1st July 2010 and will apply to all Domestic Energy Assessors.

How will this affect Elmhurst accredited assessors?

Elmhurst have always adopted a robust approach to QA and, whilst the new CLG Standard introduces a number of fundamental changes to the way QA audits are undertaken, this should not present our assessors with too much difficulty. However, it is essential that all assessors familiarise themselves with the new Standard, including Minimum Evidence Requirements.

It is possible that an individual assessor may now receive a slightly higher number of audit requests, although this is in line with CLG’s guidelines and will apply to all accredited assessors.
