Government Announces Boost For Small Housebuilders
Housing Minister Brandon Lewis has announced the Housing Growth Partnership as an initiative to increase housing supply. A fund of £100 million has been allocated to provide money to support construction businesses, helping to get workers on to sites. A network of builders, particularly experienced developers, will be established to act as mentors and advisers to those hoping to expand and grow their businesses.
The latest figures available show that new housing starts have doubled since the same period in 2009, with the number of homes granted planning permission at the highest annual rate for eight years. The new fund is designed to help small building firms to play their part in this success. The scheme is to be run in conjunction with the Lloyds Banking Group. The partnership expects to make around 50 investments, with the aim to provide an additional 2,000 homes.
