EPCs are here to stay

Following a request from Elmhurst Energy, Building Standards Division (BSD) has written to confirm that the Scottish Government remains "committed to tackle climate change" and that "EPCs are a useful tool for assisting with delivery on these obligations."

The statement goes on to illustrate that commitment by reminding us that "from 1 September 2016, the improvement of the energy performance of existing non-domestic buildings (section 63 of the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009) will commence." This policy is founded on procedures that are linked to EPCs.

Building Standards Division have also been developing proposals for consultation on standards for energy efficiency in private sector housing, with the working group proposing that these be linked to the EPC process in some way.

Elmhurst welcomes this commitment to energy efficiency and EPCs and is thankful to the Building Standards Division for this positive statement which will reassure Members, and remind building owners of their legal responsibilities
