Elmhurst responds to the 'Most important consultation for decades!'

Today Elmhurst responded to the Government Consultation on ‘Building a market for energy efficiency’; we stated last week that this is the most important consultation for decades as this is the first time ever that Government are asking industry to contribute with, amongst a wide range of topics, our views on whether there should be a link between Energy Efficiency and stamp duty or council tax.

Elmhurst, the UK's largest EPC Accreditation Scheme, thanks its members for the feedback we have received; we have listened and responded in full to ensure that:

  1. Energy assessors and EPCs continue to be at the heart of all good advice;
  2. There are more triggers to produce EPCs;
  3. That homeowners are helped to be ‘motivated’ to understand the importance of energy efficiency in their home;
  4. Government create a catalyst for change with appropriate 'carrots and sticks';
  5. Professional industries are brought together to help drive energy efficiency in people’s homes;
  6. Everything should be focussed on helping families to live in cheaper to run and warmer homes that emit less carbon emissions.

Stuart Fairlie – Technical Director of Elmhurst Energy adds:

 “We have taken our time to respond to this vital consultation as it has wide ranging suggestions and concepts for an energy efficiency market in the years to come. Whilst the Clean Growth Strategy was welcomed at the end of 2017, this consultation starts to get to the details of what is possible. It certainly is the first time ever that UK Government have asked industry what we think about linking EPCs to council tax or stamp duty.

As nothing is off the table we have responded in a professional manner to back our members to deliver EPCs that make a real difference to people’s lives. The EPC needs to be at the heart of all good energy efficiency policy moving forward. We all want families to live in warmer, cheaper to run homes that produce less carbon emissions. On behalf of our members we have made our voice heard.”

Elmhurst encourage all members to respond with their own thoughts; Although the consultation is 58 pages long and has 42 questions and topics for discussion, even if you only answer a couple of questions this is better than nothing.
