Domestic Energy Assessor Training
Energy Performance Certificates
Starting from 1st June 2007 all domestic properties will require a Home Information Pack to be provided to prospective buyers when marketed for sale. A mandatory part of this Home Information Pack is the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), which provides information on the energy efficiency, heating costs and carbon emissions of the property.
It is anticipated that up to 4 million properties annually will require energy assessment through both the Home Information Pack process and similar initiatives in the social housing & private rented sectors. All EPC’s will be produced by accredited (licensed) Domestic Energy Assessors (DEA) and in order to join an accreditation scheme a candidate must first gain an approved qualification.

DEA Qualifications and Training
Government has indicated that the only suitable qualifications will be the Home Inspectors Diploma (Level 4 VRQ) or a QCA approved Domestic Energy Assessors (DEA) qualification. It appears that three different awarding bodies; the Awarding Body in the Built Environment (ABBE), City & Guilds, and the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), will be offering DEA qualifications. The ABBE was the first of these to be approved by QCA towards the end of December, City & Guilds launched on the 23rd January and the NAEA has been approved as of 31st January.
At Elmhurst we have always provided cost effective training and we will endeavour to do the same for the DEA qualifications for both new entrants and options designed specifically for existing practitioners.
New Entrants - Currently we are working with the following industry partners to provide new entrant courses that utilise Elmhurst software systems and approved training packages, for further information on these various courses please click on the links below:
- Bluebox Partnership (Part of the Allied Surveyors group)
- Energy-Assesors.com (Part of the Homeinspectors.co.uk group)
- National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA)
Existing Practitioners - The only organisations that we are currently working with offering a DEA qualification route for existing practitioners are the Association of Building Engineers and the Bluebox Partnership who are offering a qualification to intermediate candidates.
Home Inspector Candidates - Elmhurst continues to offer RdSAP training courses and software access to support candidates completing the Home Inspectors diploma. For information on RDSAP for Home Inspectors training please click here
If you are have already successfully completed RdSAP accreditation training with Elmhurst as part of the Home Inspectors programme but are now pursuing a DEA qualification the training already undertaken will count towards DEA qualifications, but to varying degrees depending upon which training route you select and will assist your DEA accreditation (licensing) with the Elmhurst EPC accreditation scheme.
Corporate Groups - Corporate groups interested in the DEA qualifications should contact the Elmhurst training department to discuss tailored training and qualification packages.
