Boiler Amendment April 1st 2005. Update

Information Update re: Boiler amendment April 2005

Important update about the Amendments to Approved Document L1 (2002) England and Wales only

As you may already know, a change to ADL1 apparently came into force in England and Wales on the 1st April 2005. Please click on the link below to view this correction.

‘The Building Regulations 2000, Approved Document Part L1, Conservation of fuel and power in dwellings. Correction. April 2005’

The ODPM have just released a letter explaining their position on this document. It clearly states the intention as recommended by Elmhurst and all industry to remove the changes to the calculation methodology. The letter is displayed below:

Our recommendation to ODPM had been to change the amendment document immediately to leave the Target U-value and Carbon Index compliance methods unchanged. But we understand that industry themselves are already briefed on the need to use SEDBUK A and B rated boilers, and this will still apply, post 1st April 2005.

As soon as the further ‘amendment of Approved Document L1 (2002)’ is published we will inform all our users. Please keep an eye on the news articles on this website, or alternatively call our helpline

As far as the software is concerned all our customers have correct up to date software which still calculates accordingly to the current Building Regulations. When entering heating systems codes (rather than using SEDBUK option) it should noted that when choosing standard gas boiler types it would be worthwhile clicking on the Manufacturers tab and entering a minimum 86% efficiency.
