 Part L Consultation Response

As you may be aware Part L of the Building Regulations is being revised and new regulations are planned to be in place for January 2006. The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) recently released the ‘Proposals for amending Part L of the Buildings Regulations and Implementing the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive’ document. The consultation paper is available on the ODPM’s website, please click on the link to download and review.

We at Elmhurst have responded to this document, giving our views on all aspects of the proposals. We believe it is in the interest of all our customers to see our views and importantly for you to have an understanding of future legislative changes and the impact this will have on your work and business.

We hope that the regulations when enforced ensure that energy ratings are consistently enforced by Building Control and that qualified persons like yourselves are ready to produce quality assured calculations.

The review of all responses will now be undertaken by the ODPM, and the new regulations should be available in full from next summer (2005). This will hopefully allow us to produce software and importantly get this approved by the BRE, and out into your office by the Autumn. The new regulations are to be implemented on January 4th 2006.

We will be running update seminars for all our customers, these should be running around the country as soon as the new Part L is officially released. We will contact you closer to the date, but keep an eye on the 'news' on our website for updates.
