FAQ
1.What is SAP?
SAP stands for Standard Assessment Procedure- a government calculation to measure the energy efficiency of a dwelling. It uses the ECF (Energy Cost Factor) to reflect the cost of space and water heating. The SAP scale is 1-100 with running costs for the property decreasing as the SAP rating increases.
2.Why do I need a SAP rating?
You may have been asked for a SAP rating by a Building Control Officer from your Local Authority. This is because your property is either a newly built property, or is being converted and/or extended. It is also becoming more common to have SAP ratings calculated when a property is bought or sold.
3.How do I get a SAP rating calculated?
If you have plans of your property, and wish to submit evidence of your SAP rating to Building Control, Elmhurst offers a Plan Rating Service. If you are buying or selling a property and do not need to submit evidence to Building Control, you may be looking for someone to come and visit your property, and collect the information needed for the SAP calculation. All major surveying companies across the UK can carry out Elmhurst SAP calculations, often as part of the home surveys carried out for mortgage valuations.
4.How much will it cost?
If you need Elmhurst to calculate any number of ratings from drawings, please study our standard pricelists or contact us directly for a quote. If you would like a qualified SAP Assessor to visit your property, we suggest you check the cost with the individual surveying company.
