Green Deal Certification
The Green Deal forms part of the Energy Act and is a government initiative to reduce carbon emissions in domestic and non domestic properties in the UK. The Green Deal identifies energy efficiency improvements within a building. Energy efficient measures are then installed, the cost of the installations are offset over time and recouped via electricity bill payments.
What is Elmhurst's Role in the Green Deal?
Elmhurst Energy Systems Ltd was one of the first organisations accredited by United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to certify organisations to the Green Deal Standard. Elmhurst also operates professional Green Deal Advisor (GDA) training programmes for individuals through its City and Guilds Assessment Centre status. The certification process for Green Deal Advice Organisations (GDAO) is completely separate to the GDA training route for individuals that results in a qualification (not certification) for Green Deal Advisors.
Green Deal Advice Organisation (GDAO) Requirements
Any organisation domestic or non domestic can apply to become a Green Deal Advice Organisation through the Elmhurst Green Deal Advice scheme as we are a UKAS accredited Green Deal Advice Body. Under the scheme only organisations can apply to become GDAOs, the certification for Green Deal Advice does not apply to individuals unless they are sole traders.
what is the role of the GDAO?
A certified Green Deal Advice Organisation is the body that provides independent Green Deal advice through the means of the Green Deal Advice Report (GDAR) for the effective delivery of the prescribed Green Deal Standards. The advice dictates the suitability of the household for the installation of Green Deal measures.
Green Deal Advice Organisation Certification Process
Step 1: Apply for Certification
Step 2: Initial desktop audit undertaken
Step 3: Office audit of management systems
Step 4: Non conformities reported (if applicable)
Step 5: Certification decision granted, scheme docs issued & registration with oversight body
Step 6: Subsequent ongoing audits as part of certification
Step 7: Renewal applications every 5 years
How can Elmhurst assist its Certified GDAOs?
Upon request, Elmhurst can introduce its certified Green Deal Advice Organisations to its qualified Green Deal Advisors so that a possible workflow can begin for the production of Green Deal Advice Reports. Elmhurst operates a professional technical support service offering advice to all its customers via phone, email and tracked ticketing system should advisors or organisations need assistance during their Green Deal journey.
Green Deal Insurance
Elmhurst’s Domestic Green Deal insurance is provided on a pay per lodgement basis. The cover for Professional Indemnity (PI) and Public Liability (PL) is 20 pence plus Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) currently at 6% (plus VAT) per click per residential report lodged. Elmhurst’s insurance is designed to cover the Green Deal Assessment process and as such it is not an overall insurance package but is a tailored product designed to cover Green Deal Advice Reports. Domestic GDAOs have the choice of using the Elmhurst ‘per click’ service or obtaining their own insurance.
We are currently unable to offer this service to Non Domestic GDAOs and they should arrange their own Green Deal Insurance.
